Switzerland 2019
Trains, Chocolate, Cheese, Mountains & Little Knives
September/October 2019
In 2019, Gina and I bought some cheap tickets into Milan without a specific destination set.
We then decided to tour Switzerland, so our entry/exit point (Lugano) isn't typical for most visitors. That was fine for us because our plan was to basically do a loop around much of the country utilizing Switzerland's excellent public transportation.
The themes that emerged during our planning were hiking and taking the historic train lines (and cheese and chocolate, of course). As a result, we slept in a different place every night, which also isn't typical for us, and we carried everything on our backs.
So we flew into Milan, took a train north from the airport straight to Lugano, Switzerland, which took about half an hour.
Lugano is beautiful lake town and is culturally and linguistically Italian, and not terribly unlike nearby Como or any of the other very charming towns in the Italian lakes region. Cafes, piazzas, spritzes, pasta, stylish footwear, etc.
